BLISS STUDIO SELECTION: Large Pop Art oil painting “WHAAM!” after Roy Lichtenstein, 1963, oil paint on canvas, mounted on wooden chassis, hand-painted
To the artist:
Roy Lichtenstein (1923-1997) was an American artist and one of the leading figures of the Pop Art movement. He became known for his large-format paintings that look like comic panels, with bold colors, speech bubbles and Ben-Day dots – a technique that imitates prints. His works, such as “Whaam!” or “As I Opened Fire”, transformed everyday culture into art and questioned the boundaries between art and mass media.
